Move!

Because of problems leaving comments and getting email notifications, I've moved the blog over to wordpress. The new address is:
http://indysdogblog.wordpress.com/

This is the same website we used for our Italy blog, so I'm confident it will run smoothly!

See you over there!

Is there a tooth fairy for dogs?

Guess who lost her first tooth this weekend?

INDY!

Check out this close up action:

She's definitely entered the teething phase--her favorite activities are chewing on anything in her eyesight, especially her favorite blue frisbee, her rope toy, innocent bystanders like us, or towels. In fact she's chewing her bed towel right now, while she's lying down. Our vet says she won't have all her adult teeth until around 8 months, which means lots more chewing.

(also, we realize that freaking out over our dog losing her first tooth, taking photos of it, pointing 4 arrows at the empty tooth hole, and posting about it on the internet make us crazy dog people. Just wait until you see our next post--we bought Indy clothes!)

Dog walk!

Indy LOVES going for walks. She wants to sniff everything, run all over everything, look at every tree, and put anything she finds into her mouth. Here's a ton of photos of Indy on a walk.

Just sniffing around at some fallen leaves--she loves to chase leaves, especially on windy days. She also does this little pointer thing with her paw when she's concentrating.

An over-the-shoulder shot of Indy. She doesn't always get the concept that the person sets the pace--she'll lag behind sniffing something and then run ahead. We're working on walking next to each other.

One of Indy's favorite pastimes (if you can have a pastime after two weeks of walking outside) is picking up sticks in her mouth and carrying them during the walk. She'll usually carry a stick for maybe 15 seconds before she'll get distracted and drop it, and if we stop she'll gnaw on the stick.

We had a wind storm recently and Indy was very intrigued by this fallen branch--just like a huge stick!

So she decided to chew on it.

As you can see, we walk her with a harness. We love it because we can give her a little tug if she starts sniffing at trash or gets distracted without hurting her neck, and she likes it because she didn't quite understand the concept of a collar on her earliest walks--she'd run to the end of the leash and pull herself in a circle by her neck.

Happy puppy at the end of the walk, ready to go inside!

Play photos

Indy loves to hide under our futon, especially when she's playing with toys. She'll grab a toy and drag it under the futon, or dash under the futon whenever she thinks we're "chasing" her (usually when it's time to make dinner and she doesn't want to go back in her pen!).

Here's a series of photos of Indy's futon fun!

Indy's first bath!

We gave Indy her first bath on Sunday and she was incredibly well-behaved. She obviously wasn't a huge fan of being soaked in water, but she didn't struggle or whine at all, although she did try to escape the bathtub twice. Unfortunately for her, she's way to small to jump over the edge. We sudsed her up with an oatmeal shampoo, rinsed her off, and toweled her down. She wasn't a big fan of being damp, and tried to dry off using our futon right after the bath, resulting in this hilarious video.

You'll notice that near the end when we both start cracking up over her crazy behavior she seems slightly offended.

Indy Update!

We made an epic video last night of Indy getting crazy around 10:30 at night. We had another vet visit yesterday morning, and after the poking, prodding, and another round of vaccinations along with an icky-tasting pill (which she spit out the first time), she was exhausted most of the day yesterday. She slept on my lap for several hours while I read (what a great Saturday!) and was very calm until she perked up after 10pm.

What does a perky dog do late at night? Well, Indy started running around the apartment like a crazy beast, scrambling around with her back arched like a cat and her tail tucked between her legs. She would run down the hall, back up, into the bedroom, across the living room into the dining room, then she'd race under the futon to catch her breath before racing out again. She also ran right up to the video camera several times and got dog saliva on the lens. We'll post the video soon!

The vet said Indy is healthy and happy, she's gaining weight (over 5 pounds now!), and since she's had her last round of vaccinations we can take her outside! Unfortunately Indy seems to think her leash is a chew toy so we're going to practice walking inside before we take her around the neighborhood. Today we'll give Indy her first bath, wish us good luck!

Puppy Party!

Last Saturday we had a little puppy party for some people to meet Indy. But first we had to dress her up a little! I found this red fabric band which came off of an iPod case, and realized it would fit her perfectly; it has some elastic and wasn't tight at all. Steve used to be very against dressing up dogs or putting clothes on pets, but he's totally warming up to the idea. Next stop--leather bomber jacket! (just kidding)

Before the party Indy relaxed, but as soon as the first friends arrived she was wagging her tail and running around. She liked everyone and we had fun making her chase a ball in a circle. She also did a few tricks, tried to chew on some sandals and a purse, and licked the toes of at least two people. Plus she got the rope toy featured in one of the videos below, which she loves. She was pretty tuckered out by the end of the day, and finished the party sleeping on the futon.

And because we haven't hosted anyone in a while, we decided to get a little fancy with some appetizers and flowers and "fancy water," AKA water with lemon and strawberries. (I stole that idea from a hotel.)

Indy had a great time meeting new people and hopefully they enjoyed her as well!
